# Ray Moloney

Raymond T. Moloney (1900–1958) founded [Bally Manufacturing](https://www.kineticist.com/manufacturers/bally-manufacturing-co) in Chicago in 1932. Born in Cleveland, he moved to Chicago in 1921 and ran a punchboard business that became Lion Manufacturing, serving as president of Lion and of its coin-op distribution subsidiary, Midwest Novelty.

Bally was formed to build *Ballyhoo*, a pin game Moloney developed from a design by Oliver Van Tyle and Oscar Bloom, with playfield art based on the cover of the December 1931 issue of *Ballyhoo* magazine. Released in January 1932 at $16.50, it sold 50,000 units in its first seven months and gave the company its name. *Goofy* followed in 1932 and *Airways* in 1933. Moloney led Bally until his death in February 1958.
