G.I. Joe

G.I. Joe, originally launched by Hasbro in 1964 as an action figure line, has become one of the most enduring and iconic toy brands in American history. Initially marketed as "America's Movable Fighting Man," G.I. Joe was the first action figure of its kind, designed to represent various branches of the U.S. military. The line was a massive success, leading to the creation of different characters and a shift from military figures to a more diverse range of action-oriented personas.

In 1982, Hasbro rebranded G.I. Joe as "A Real American Hero," introducing a new line of smaller, 3.75-inch figures, each with unique code names, specialties, and backgrounds. This version of G.I. Joe focused on a team of elite soldiers battling the sinister Cobra organization, a terrorist group bent on world domination. The revamped line was supported by a popular animated television series and a Marvel comic book series, both of which expanded the G.I. Joe universe and introduced fans to memorable characters like Duke, Snake Eyes, Scarlett, and Cobra Commander.

The G.I. Joe franchise has since grown into a multimedia empire, including additional animated series, video games, and live-action films. The 2009 film G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and its 2013 sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation brought the franchise to a new generation, though with mixed critical reception. Despite this, the G.I.
