Briarwood, Div. Of Brunswick Mfg. Co.

Briarwood was a brand name used by Brunswick Manufacturing Company, the bowling and billiards equipment maker, for a short-lived line of home pinball machines sold between 1976 and 1980. These were consumer products for the living room, sold through retail channels rather than placed in arcades and bars.

The line began in 1976 with Super Star, released in both an electromechanical version with four flippers and a solid-state version with two. Its best-known title, the space-themed Cosmic Pinball, followed in 1977 in an electromechanical edition with a brown cabinet and mechanical-reel scoring, and a solid-state edition with a yellow cabinet. Briarwood's catalog also included Skate King.

Brunswick sold the machines under both its Briarwood label and its own name — period advertising carried the two brandings together, and several titles shared the same internals under different artwork. By 1980 the venture wound down, and Brunswick did not return to pinball manufacturing.
