Brunswick Mfg. Co.

Brunswick Mfg. Co. was the name under which Brunswick, the American billiards and bowling equipment maker, sold its own line of home pinball machines in the late 1970s. The company traced back to a billiards-table shop John Brunswick opened in Cincinnati in 1845, was renamed Brunswick Corporation in 1960, and by the mid-1970s was already producing coin-operated amusements such as air hockey tables alongside its bowling-equipment business.

Brunswick's home pinball line began in 1976 with Block-A-Shot, an electromechanical machine, and continued with solid-state machines including Alive (1978), Aspen and Demolition Classic (both 1979), and Circus (1980). The same line was marketed under Brunswick's Briarwood brand as well — period advertising carried both names, on titles including Super Star, Cosmic Pinball, and Skate King — with several machines sharing the same internals under different artwork. In 1977 Brunswick also built a six-title line of home machines for Henry W.T. Mali & Co., the New York billiard-supply company, sold under the Mali name.

The 1980 Circus release was Brunswick's last pinball machine. The company did not return to the category, and its parent continued on as a bowling and billiards equipment manufacturer under the Brunswick Corporation name.
