Dutch Pinball

Dutch Pinball was founded in the Netherlands in 2013 by Barry Driessen and Jaap Nauta. Its first product was Bride of Pinbot 2.0, a 2014 upgrade kit that added new rules, a color display, and updated audio to Williams' 1991 Bride of Pinbot.

The same year, Dutch Pinball announced its own machine: The Big Lebowski, a licensed title built around the 1998 Coen Brothers film. The first games reached buyers in 2016, but production soon stalled in a payment dispute with contract manufacturer ARA, which held finished and unfinished machines in its warehouse while early buyers waited. Dutch Pinball explored other manufacturing routes — including engineering samples built by Chinese manufacturer Xytech — while the dispute went to court. When the judge ruled in ARA's favor in 2019, Dutch Pinball settled directly: it paid ARA off in exchange for the games and parts inventory ARA had been holding, ending the legal fight and letting the company resume building The Big Lebowski itself.

By 2022, Dutch Pinball was manufacturing out of a factory in Herkenbosch, in the Limburg region, turning out The Big Lebowski at a rate of 10 to 12 units a week while still working through its backlog of early-backer orders. In 2024, the company paired with designer Melvin Brouwer-Williams to launch a separate brand, Dutch Pinball Exclusive (DPX), releasing Alice's Adventures in Wonderland on a planned run of 500 units. Brouwer-Williams left the venture in February 2026 as new investors joined Dutch Pinball, and DPX stopped operating as a brand. Dutch Pinball kept responsibility for completing outstanding Alice's Adventures in Wonderland orders and continues to manufacture from its Netherlands factory.
