About
Game Plan, Inc. was founded in the late 1970s in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, as a subsidiary of AES Technology Systems. Its founders were Lee Goldboss and Martin Abrams of AES, along with Wendell McAdams, a former Chicago Coin designer. The company's first pinball tables shipped in 1978: compact cocktail-cabinet machines including Foxy Lady and Chuck-A-Luck, alongside titles named for existing liquor and cigarette brands, such as Black Velvet, Real, and Camel Lights. Game Plan moved to larger facilities in Addison, Illinois, in early 1979.
That year the company moved into full-size arcade pinball with Sharpshooter, a Wild West-themed machine designed by Roger Sharpe, Joe Joos Jr., and Ed Cebula. It became Game Plan's bestseller and anchored the lineup alongside the cocktail tables. Later full-size titles, including Attila the Hun and Agents 777, reused earlier playfield layouts, an economy measure designers relied on to bring new games to production faster and at lower cost.
Game Plan ended pinball production in late 1985. Its last design, Loch Ness Monster, was designed by Joe Kaminkow and illustrated by Seamus McLaughlin, and never reached full production — only a single prototype was built. Designers who passed through Game Plan went on to notable pinball careers elsewhere: John Trudeau at D. Gottlieb and later Williams, and Ed Cebula at Data East Pinball.
