Giorgio Massiniero

BEM srl — short for Bigliardini Elettronici Milano — was an Italian pinball manufacturer based in Milan, run by Giorgio Masiero (also recorded internationally as Giorgio Massiero or Giorgio Massiniero, the name under which several of its machines circulate in English-language pinball databases). Like other small Italian coin-op shops of the period, BEM built at least some of its early machines as kits: it took obsolete Gottlieb electromechanical pinball machines pulled from operator routes and rebuilt them with new playfields and backglass artwork, reusing the donor machines' cabinets, relays, and score-reel assemblies. Its 1976 releases include Jackpot — whose playfield design was borrowed from three 1971 Williams machines, Klondike, Jackpot, and Gold Rush — alongside Crocket, Travel Agency, and Ascot.

By February 1978, BEM had moved into solid-state electronics with Sun's Cruise, a four-player machine built on the same playfield as Travel Agency but with different graphics. It followed with Urania and two cabinet versions of Aliens & Women in 1980. BEM's last documented release was Papillon in 1985, after which no further machines from the company have surfaced.
