About
Innovative Concepts in Entertainment, Inc., which trades as ICE, is a coin-operated amusement manufacturer in Clarence, New York, founded in 1982. Its first success was the Chexx bubble hockey table, and sports and skill games have been the company's main line ever since.
Through the 1990s and 2000s ICE moved into ticket redemption, with Cyclone in 1995, the ICE Ball alley roller, and licensed games including Monopoly, Wheel of Fortune and Deal or No Deal. The private equity firms MidMark Capital and Summer Street Capital Partners held the company until June 2008, when founder and president Ralph Coppola and the management team bought it back with five million dollars of mezzanine financing from F.N.B. Capital.
ICE's one pinball-adjacent title is a redemption game rather than a machine: its 1994 The Flintstones is a ticket vendor with flippers on a molded playfield, and has nothing to do with the Williams pinball of the same name and year. The company hired pinball designer John Trudeau in 2002, when trade coverage expected an ICE pinball machine to follow, but the line out of Clarence stayed with redemption and skill games. ICE shut down during the New York closures in spring 2020 and resumed shipping that June under president Joe Coppola.
