About

MarsaPlay was a Spanish amusement-equipment manufacturer and distributor based in Viator, near Almería, that entered the pinball business in 2010. The company built New Canasta, a modernized remake of Inder's 1986 Canasta '86, starting with a short initial run of prototypes announced in April 2010.

New Canasta replaced the usual dot-matrix display with an LCD monitor in the backbox that also ran attract-mode advertising, and it substituted contactless proximity sensors for the mechanical switches used on typical rollover lanes and drop targets. The game also included a player-facing webcam that captured images alongside high scores. MarsaPlay showed New Canasta at European trade events into 2012, alongside Zoo-Park Marisali, a children's pinball and capsule dispenser, but no pinball activity from the company is documented afterward.
