Ray Moloney

Raymond T. Moloney (1900–1958) founded Bally Manufacturing in Chicago in 1932. Born in Cleveland, he moved to Chicago in 1921 and ran a punchboard business that became Lion Manufacturing, serving as president of Lion and of its coin-op distribution subsidiary, Midwest Novelty.

Bally was formed to build Ballyhoo, a pin game Moloney developed from a design by Oliver Van Tyle and Oscar Bloom, with playfield art based on the cover of the December 1931 issue of Ballyhoo magazine. Released in January 1932 at $16.50, it sold 50,000 units in its first seven months and gave the company its name. Goofy followed in 1932 and Airways in 1933. Moloney led Bally until his death in February 1958.
