From the creator

Looking for the ultimate Stern Rush pinball review? Join Pinball Pursuit as we share our full thoughts on the rock-and-roll masterpiece from @sternpinballinc! Based on the legendary Canadian rock band @rush, this machine was designed by John Borg with incredible design collaboration from Ed Robertson of @barenakedladies. We put this high-energy game to the test, rating it across five key areas: Theme, Look, Sound, Design, and Rules. Does it do justice to the band's iconic music? Let's find out! See our tutorial for the game here: Rush Tutorial - Pinball Guide 📊 HOW WE RATE IT: THE PINBALL PURSUIT REVIEW CRITERIA On Pinball Pursuit, Cameron and JayneAnn score every pinball machine across five core categories to give you the ultimate buyer’s guide for a home arcade or location play. Here is what we look for: 1. THEME INTEGRATION: How well does the machine bring the IP to life? We evaluate assets, animations, custom callouts, and how immersive the overall universe feels while playing. 2. THE LOOK & ARTWORK: From the cabinet art and backglass/translight design to the playfield plastics and toy sculpts. We look at the visual package. 3. THE SOUND DESIGN: Pinball is an audio experience. We rate the music tracks, sound effects clarity, callouts, and how satisfying the audio cues are during critical game modes and jackpots. 4. PLAYFIELD DESIGN & FEEL: The physical engineering. We break down the ball flow, kinetic feel, shot geometry, and mechanics designed by industry icons. 5. THE RULES & PLAYABILITY: Is the code deep enough for a home collection but approachable for casual players? We rate the rules sheet complexity, wizard modes, multiballs, stacks, and overall fun factor. Connect with us on Instagram:

Kineticist’s take

TL;DR

Rush pinball divides reviewers: passionate fan loves theme/rules, casual player frustrated by design and complexity.

Synopsis

Mrs. Jay and Dr. C review the Rush pinball machine by Stern, designed by John Borg with code by Raymond Davidson. Mrs. Jay, a passionate Rush fan, scored the game highly (21/25) but was disappointed by the center scoop gameplay and the poor quality of the band member artwork on the playfield. Dr. C, unfamiliar with Rush, found the machine's complex, non-intuitive rules and generic sound design off-putting, scoring it 13/25. Their combined score of 17/25 places Rush in the bottom half of machines they've reviewed.
