October 2018 Pinball Expo reboot succeeds with record numbers; Oktoberfest and Monster Bash remakes revealed.
Recap of the pinball industry news of October 2018, including Oktoberfest, Beatles, Monster Bash remake, Pinball Expo and more.
It's been a loooong 31 days since the last episode and we've had plenty of time to practice our signature moves on spending Brent's money, white-washing gameroom updates and making half-educated attempts at industry and hobby news coverage. Should that stop us this month? WE SAY NO! So in our best declaration of determination and comeuppance, we return for the October show and unfortunately there's nothing spooky about it - at all. However, we do have everything that you've come to know and love with the show as well as the following major topics: 1. Flashlights 2. ColorDMD 3. Flashlights 4. New Pinball announcements 5. Flashlights 6. Stern code updates 7. Flashlights 8. Spend Brent's Money 9. Flashlights 10. Flashlights (just to round it out). Yep - it's arcade and pinball podcasting, BT style!
Sept 2018: Monster Bash stalled, Stern quiet at Expo, American Pinball teases Oktoberfest.
Recap of the pinball industry news of September 2018, review of the Vancouver Flip Out show and an interview with Pinball Expo chairman, Rob Berk.
Oh literally...how do we love thee? Let me count thy ways...and it's a lot. So much so that we cover every topic from A to Z - literally. Brent goes to a comic-con where he sees literally EVERYBODY. He works on his Tron and has to fix literally EVERYTHING. His Thermoforming machine and 3D printer are literally STILL A WORK IN PROGRESS and his gameroom literally hasn't been touched in MONTHS. Whitney is no better - he has had his TNA for a week and just now got it moved into his house - LITERALLY! Add to that, he's got nothing better to do than spend Brent's money on a literal boatload of cool stuff (seriously - Wico joysticks, Neo Geo LED Marquee lights and a dual Punch-Out/Super Punch-Out adapter) this month. Pair that with some literally awesome feedback and some news and it all adds up to 4+ hours of arcade and pinball goodness! You'll literally LOVE this month's show! Figuratively - I think we're spot on.
August 2018: Deadpool ships fast, Munsters leaked, Pirates finally in production, Spooky limits TNA.
Lots of news from the pinball industry, including Deadpool, an interview with Mike Kalinowski of Homepin, review of the UK Pinfest and loads more.
Way better... that's the best phrase we know of to sum up August vs. July 2018. No plumbing issues (that we know of), no home repairs and no major calamities befell the podcast crew this month, so we were able to focus on what we do best - POSING as knowledgeable pinball and arcade hobbyists. With that poser status comes a lot of a poser updates on everything from Brent's new 3D printer, his thermoforming machine build, a massive parts haul and more. Whitney found a few fluke pods and is still posing as a pinballer while he awaits word on his TNA. We also catch up on a mini-review of the Hyperkin RetroN77 and pose as big spenders with Brent's money this month (seriously - check out the list) before chatting up the new Stern Pinball Deadpool. We top all this with a BOATLOAD (no posing required this month) of listener feedback that turned out to be as much (or more) fun than the actual show itself. Like the old saying goes "chrome won't get you home" but we sure pretended it did.
July 2018: Wayne Neyens turns 100, Monster Bash confirmed, Team Pinball launches, Stern outbids Spooky for Godzilla.
The Editors of Pinball News and Pinball Magazine look back on the month's events including: - Wayne Neyens celebrated 100th birthday july 29th - Monster Bash confirmed as remake #3 - Team Pinball revealed + Mafia - JJP starts production on POTC - Spooky rumored to have lost the Godzilla license in a bidding war to Stern. - Code updates for Batman, Guardians and Star Wars - Keith Elwin wins Pinburgh - Dutch Pinball low on funds, will meet with ARA lawyers at the end of August after filing 141 pages of defense - ColorDMD released/announced Last Action Hero and Slugfest - Stern went to CominCon - Pinball Hall of Fame to close at Tropicana to move to the strip
July 2018 It's been said that we talk a lot. Truth be told - we do. I'm not sure if it's us liking to hear our own voice or if it's that we actually have something to say. Maybe it's somewhere in-between. Regardless, we give it our all every month and July is no different. We dig into some great (almost) gameroom updates - Brent discusses wiring up his air compressor and is looking to build a thermoforming machine! Yeah - you read that right - THERMOFORMING. Nothing is safe now. Whitney makes a sweet score on a Vectrex bundle, gets in his RetroN 77 and discusses some recent travels to boot. Add in some discussion around video test harnesses, testing pinball motors, a possible Warlords reproduction PCB, Red Tent reproduction CPOs and some discussion about "The End" for Major Havoc and you've got Ep. 71! Oh yeah - we also fix Brent's bathroom and a busted spigot at Whitneys' house. Home Repair show or arcade and pinball podcast???? YOU DECIDE.
we sit at the kitchen table and talk pinball with Dan Devriend, Brian Kast, Alex Lambert and Rusty Clingan
JUNE 2018 This month could have been called "the watchpot never boils" as we spend some time catching up on the summer and discussing several items that we've been waiting to bake... 1. Brent's return from the 2018 Southern-Fried Gaming Expo to hear about the capers and fun that was had down in Atlanta. 2. Whitney's TNA - oh, the sweet, sweet smell of waiting. 3. The Atari VCS 4. The Hyperkin Retron 77 5. Donkey Kong & Sky Skipper ON THE NINTENDO SWITCH!! Yeah - you read all of that right - we cover some seriously diverse ground this episode, all the while trying to figure out how to light up some Pixel Pals and just what the heck is up with the "Supreme" edition pinball from Stern??? I guess what they say is true - it's all about the benjamins. Summer heat is killing us, Brent can't remember a single person's name and we both have way too many words. Like we said on the show - IT"S ALL UPSIDE!!
Heighway Pinball liquidated, the aftermath. Spooky Pinball confirms second Scott Danesi game. Stern Pinball lures Doug Skor from Chicago Gaming. and a lot more.
The editors of Pinball Magazine and Pinball News look back on developments in the pinball industry during the past month.
Well, well, well….the slacker (Whitney) is back in the studio and tries to carry his share of the water this month. Despite being a bit (LOT) out of practice after his unintentional hiatus we still manage to pull off a fun show full of gameroom and hobby updates (and banter), gift opening on air (always compelling radio, seeing as how no-one can see a thing), Iron Maiden pinball talk and spending of Brent’s money. What more did you expect? Quality??? pppffffttt…. Entertainment??? pppffffftttt…. FREE? You’ve got us there. LOCK AND LOAD.
Heighway Pinball liquidated; Thunderbirds in production; Iron Maiden LE revealed
Heighway Pinball is liquidated, Thunderbirds is in production, Iron Maiden LE artwork revealed and more.
We are "back to basics" this month and are proud to turn the spotlight on the local collecting scene and allow Louisville-local collectors a chance at the mic to tell their story and talk about their perspectives on the current state of the arcade and pinball hobby. Truthfully - we don't get to do this enough. Whitney was out of town for work, so this seemed like the perfect chance to upgrade this month's show! To keep the 'regular' pace for the episode, Brent chats for a bit about his updates post Louisville Arcade Expo and discusses some initial perspectives on Stern's new Iron Maiden pin as well. Let us know what you think - would love some feedback on the format of this episode!
Flip Expo 2018 report featuring JJP's Jack Guarnieri defending Pirates of the Caribbean design changes.
Featuring a report on the Flip Expo 2018, an interview with Jack Guarnieri (Jersey Jack Pinball), and a review of Phenix Pinball's Olympic Goblin.
Happy Friday the 13th! PLEASE don’t break your finger hitting the rewind button on your Walkman ™! It’s the last of our Louisville Arcade Expo 2018 shows, and for this very special (and favorite) of days, we figured it only fitting to grace your ears with a never-ending montage of prior-episide outtakes featuring Whitney laughing, Brent lamenting and beep tone after beep tone after beep tone. The ONLY redeeming quality is the uber-cool soundtrack for the show. HA!

March 2018 Join us for our Friday night (3/2/2018) live stream show from the floor of the Louisville Arcade Expo! Friend of the show Shawn O’ Shea takes up the co-hosting duties for Whitney (he had a family commitment) and hangs on the microphones with Brent while we pull a few folks from the show floor – including our special guest – Mr. Steve Bowden from FunWithBonus.com! We really ratchet up our cred on this show and lay out 2.5 hours of ‘qualified’ pinball talk this time around – and we are even “Jim Hale approved”! Join in the fun pinball talk and take in the sounds from the expo!
February 2018 I’ll just park that show title right here, and you can thank Brent for that one! Even though February is always a hectic month for us (getting ready for the Louisville Arcade Expo) and such, we didn’t skimp on the free entertainment this month and managed to cram out 3 hours of shop talk on vector HV cages (hence the show title), a DIY Z80 pod for your Fluke 9010 tester, the absolute best IC puller known to man and a multi-Scramble kit that had Brent spending his own money faster than Whitney can – and that’s some trick. We also give the Pins their due and pay some respect to the fantastic PAPA tutorials and the good work done by Bowen Kerins and his team. Also, we’d like to give a special shout-out to Scott Danesi ( as he has graciously allowed us to use his MOST EXCELLENT music as the new official soundtrack for the podcast. Yep – we are now officially almost as cool as Total Nuclear Attraction. ALMOST. Here’s how the timings for the show break down: * Segment 1 – 00:00 – 01:15 – Monthly updates * Segment 2 – 01:15 – 01:56 – Tech and Spend Brent's Money! * Segment 3 - 01:56 - 02:41 - News and Feedback * Segment 4 – 02:43 – Outtakes!
Ah...winter - we want you gone. The cold gets so tiring, that we are left with not much to do other than muse on pork and pork-related products. Instead of waxing on about bacon, it’s really time to get back to projects, restoring some games and spending Brent’s money on absolutely everything in sight. Although the weather isn’t cooperating, we aren’t letting that stop us from another great show and 3.5 hours talking shop on arcade and pinball. This month, we gear up for the Louisville Arcade Expo and Jeremy Fleitz sits in with us as we learn what to expect from the 2018 version of the show. We talk fixing Pole Positions - and the FPGA multiboard status, swapping William’s power supplies for modern replacements, Vectrex games, whole-house surge protection and everything under the sun regarding Total Nuclear Annihilation. All up, a pretty dyslexic, but totally fun show! Oh yeah - Brent wants an Iron Maiden. Come on Stern!!
There’s no better way to wrap the year and send 2017 out with a bang than to wax nostalgic on why we sound absolutely NOTHING like the smooth tones of our favorite Christmas music poet from way back…Mr. Burl Ives. TBH, we don’t really dig much into Burl Ives in this episode, but it did make for a couple good references and it is that time of year! Instead, what you get for this last show is 2017 is a healthy heaping of reflection on the year, some current updates, some spending of the Brent’s money, some discussion on EEPROM programmers and some non-committal pinball talk about Guardians of the Galaxy and Total Nuclear Annihilation. Oh yeah – that and we want to go see Star Wars: The Last Jedi – like really bad. We thank everyone for their time in 2017 – we know you’ve got a choice in podcasts and we appreciate you continuing to spend your time with us! We will try (like harder than we did this year) to continue the push above mediocrity for 2018 – onwards and upwards!!

Thanksgiving comes and goes so quickly anymore, that it seems like the month of November just flies by – whether we want it to or not. Despite the pace, it’s always important to take the time and reflect on what to be thankful for this year. For us, it’s being back home safe and sound (Whitney) to get back in the studio and for not blowing out a Christmas budget (Brent) by spending too much money – and Whitney invents yet another new word! Did we say we are professionals? So true to form, what do we do instead of spending all of Brent’s money? We run through our monthly updates, talk about what’s coming up with the Holidays, Whitney recaps his UK trip for the Sky Skipper reveal at the Arcade Club and we discuss our most excellent weekend at the Grand Ole Gameroom Expo. We chat a bit about the upcoming Pole Position FPGA board, Guardians of the Galaxy Pinball and the Mike Doyle multi-Pac kit (Brent likes Pac-Man instead of Donkey Kong…go figure). As a special treat, we also have a bonus segment we recorded with Adam and JP of Podcasserole while at the Expo. It was a ton of fun, as we talked arcade games, movies, all kinds of pop-culture references, and learned quite a bit about Back to the Future, as well. Can’t no Tryptophan keep us podcasters down!
October 2017 It was bound to happen, but we’re proud to say it took 60 episodes before we had to call in a favor – friend of the show David Corrigan (from the Grand Ole Gameroom Expo) sits in the ‘Whitney chair’ this month and picks up the slack since Whitney has been out gallivanting across the globe with the UK Sky Skipper reveal. Despite the show improving quite a bit, just don't expect such a high bar to be upheld going forward every single episode… we can’t afford this kind of consistent talent! But enough with that, let’s hear about the good stuff – the games and what’s been going on this past month… Brent discusses some pretty significant lineup changes, and what’s he’s taking down to the Nashville show to put in the linuep. Multiple Tron’s are discussed (like who has two Tron’s anyway? It’s about like having 5 Defender’s…) and Brent runs through some good fix-up parts for MCR games. David gives us some some info on his background, his personal collection and digs into just what it takes to be the “head guy in charge” of running a large expo in today’s market. In a nutshell – it’s not easy, and it takes determination and commitment. We do wind up hearing from Whitney though, as he phones in an interview segment from across the pond as he and Alex review the UK Sky Skipper reveal weekend and discuss their thoughts on the project now that it is coming to a formal close. Stand ready though - we’ll hear the full recap of Whitney’s two weeks in the UK and more on the UK reveal event on the November show. We toss in some listener feedback, revisit the Ghostbusters topic and talk about more of Brent’s “famous” repairs as well. It’s a Happy Halloween/end of October freak-show bonanza (but without the clowns)! Here’s how the timings for the show break down: * Segment 1 – 00:00 – 01:10 – Monthly updates and David Corrigan!
