Who’s Who

Rules and Code

NOTE: A huge thank you to Gerry Stellenberg for the information below!

The game is called “Sorcerer’s Apprentice”, and it’s entirely original.  You play the game as the apprentice, and the ultimate goal is to defeat the sorcerer in a battle of magic.  That sorcerer battle is the ‘wizard’ mode / finale.  Gameplay has you shooting shots to travel to different environments and playing modes to learn spells, collect keys, and find/open chests.  Each environment has 4 different modes, including a multiball mode, and there’s another stackable, overarching multiball mode: Black Magic Multiball!  Along the way, you’ll encounter bandits that try to steal your belongings and magical wards that attack you.

There are some new aspects to gameplay in this game, like managing an array of spells.  Specifically, after learning a spell, it gets added to your inventory, and some of your future objectives are protected by one or more magical elements.  You then use alternate buttons (the white buttons on the P3) to select the desired spell before hitting a shot.  If you have the right spell selected, you’ll complete the objective.  If not, your shot has no effect, or worse, it could result in you getting attacked!  There’s also a defensive spell, the Shield.  After learning the Shield spell, you can use the yellow buttons to enable/disable it to protect yourself from attacks.

Because Sorcerer’s Apprentice is based on casting and fending off spells, managing your health is a big part of the game.  There are a few different ways to lose health and also a couple of ways to gain it back, which is important because when your health reaches 0%, the flippers go dead, and the ball ends.

This game is perfectly conceived for the Cosmic Cart Racing playfield because of its flowing/exploratory layout and density of 900 RGB LEDs.  The main playfield LCD content immerses you into gameplay, and screen effects combined with incredible lightshows deliver the magical experience you’d expect from a sorcerer-centric theme.
