This week on Modern Man in Search of High Scores, Lawrence and Dean settle one of the most important questions ever asked in an arcade: Congo or King Kong? Two giant apes enter the arena, but only one can claim the GC. And this time, Lawrence and Dean aren't alone. They're joined in the arcade by Banyan Wools, a 13-year-old pinball phenom who is absolutely tearing up the California tournament scene. We talk to Banyan about competing against players twice — and sometimes three times — his age, what it's like to be one of the young guns making noise in competitive pinball, and what keeps him coming back for more. Plus, arcade and pinball news, high-score talk, tournament stories, and the usual assortment of questionable decisions from two grown men who probably should know better by now. Grab a drink, drop a quarter, and join us for another episode of Modern Man in Search of High Scores!

The seemingly endless stampede of new game releases continues. After multiple game announcements last month, we have another three to report this month. So, join Jonathan and Martin as they bring you all these details and much more in the latest August 2026 edition of the Pinball Industry News PINcast. This month’s PINcast was delayed by a few days in order to cover the reveal of Stern Pinball new Fallout game. Part cornerstone, part studio release, Fallout is the latest Keith Elwin design and takes elements from both the hugely popular computer game and also the Amazon TV series. The upper models incorporate both an upper playfield and a lower playfield, as well as a rocket launcher and opening vault door. All this comes at a cost though. So, find out what that is, where you can play it, and even where you can see Keith talk about the making of his new Fallout game. If Fallout is beyond your reach, Stern have also released a more affordable Home Edition Plus model of their Pokémon game for exclusive sale through Costco in the US, which seems to have been warmly received by those who played it. Having confirmed their plans to build it back in March, American Pinball have now revealed the first of their ‘reimagined’ remakes with their Cirqus Voltaire game. Available in Classic and enhanced Ringmaster editions, both models update the 1997 Bally classic with modern technology and assorted beautifying touches. They may have started making it a decade ago, but there’s life in The Big Lebowski yet, as a new Jesus Edition demonstrates. Themed around the purple-clad bowling nemesis, the limited run of 300 machines adds new gameplay features which will be rolled out to existing Lebowski machine owners. Last month’s PINcast covered the reveal of Barrels of Fun’s new Bon Jovi game, but this month the band’s three concerts at London’s Wembeley Stadium were the perfect excuse to bring the game to the UK, taking a detour via the UK Pinfest show. Martin was there and played it.

What it's really like running a pinball tournament.
NEW TRANSFORMERS TOPPER MODE: GHOST IN THE MACHINE! Okay… this is pretty damn cool! If you have the Optimus Prime topper, there’s an exclusive Ghost In The Machine Mode where the game basically decides it’s had enough of you beating the crap out of it and starts fighting back. Ghost takes control of your flippers, steals your balls, and it’s up to you to regain control and put him back in his place. Hit the green shots, add balls, use the Action Button to fight back, and complete all 10 shots to beat Ghost at his own game. Check it out... Big shoutout to Elizabeth Gieske for continuing to bring us all these fun, creative new game modes!

Fallout pinball praised as Elwin's best; media day logistics criticized.
The highly anticipated Fallout pinball machine from Stern Pinball is finally here, and I’ve played it! In this episode of The Flipside, we break down Keith Elwin’s latest creation and ask the big question: Could Fallout be his greatest pinball machine ever? Stern opened the wallet and gave the team the freedom to build one of its most ambitious and feature-packed games to date. Does that make Fallout worth the higher price? Could it also change what players expect from future Stern Pinball releases? More importantly, could this machine inspire pinball fans to explore the Fallout universe while bringing Fallout fans into pinball? We also need to have an honest conversation about Stern’s Media Day. A few things happened that made me question whether Stern should restructure the event, establish clearer expectations for attendees and do more to keep the focus on media access instead of allowing it to become someone’s personal pinball tournament. Was Stern Media Day a bust? Is Fallout Keith Elwin’s best game ever? Does this release set a new standard for Stern Pinball? Let me know what you think in the comments and whether you would choose the Fallout Pro, Premium or Limited Edition or if this one is a “pass” for you. LOOKING FOR A NEW OR USED PINBALL MACHINE?
