Bon Jovi Pinball - A Very Real Pinball Machine From Barrels of Fun
🪩 Bon Jovi Pinball Gameplay 🎬 Official Bon Jovi Pinball Trailer It’s Barrels of Fun’s latest game, and I’m extremely proud to have worked with the team to bring our vision of a concert pin to life. Bon Jovi is packed with cool mechs, great flow, huge lighting, and a full concert atmosphere. It features an outlane flipper, a giant magnetic heart and dagger mech, a vertical looping captive-ball spinner, a reactive crowd system, lightning flippers, and a seriously upgraded audio system that makes it one of the best sounding stock setups in pinball. I was responsible for the complete audio package, including sound effects, callout recording, mixing, and audio direction. Bon Jovi is packed, fast, and has incredible flow. BJ really might be the most fun you have all summer. 📡 Twitch 📺 YouTube 📷 Instagram 📘 Facebook 👕 Apparel
Kineticist’s take
Bon Jovi pinball: Barrels of Fun's ambitious music-themed machine with innovative magnets, skill saves, and concert-sampled audio design.
Synopsis
Jeff, the audio director for Barrels of Fun, presents a comprehensive walkthrough of the upcoming Bon Jovi pinball machine, detailing its innovative mechanical features (giant heart-and-dagger magnet/elevator, crowd surf outlane flipper save, loop-to-loop captive ball) and its industry-leading audio system. The game introduces dynamic audio design including a crowd engine, key-matched sound effects that adapt to in-song key changes, sampled audio from live Bon Jovi concerts, and narrative voice callouts from Tommy and Gina characters. Barrels of Fun has implemented customizable audio settings (call-out modes, room EQ) and upgraded hardware (new amp, speakers, subwoofer, cabinet sub box), positioning Bon Jovi as a showcase for the manufacturer's design philosophy and technical ambition.
Highlights
- The giant Bon Jovi heart-and-dagger acts as a magnet grab, an elevator with three stages of diverter height, a shoot-through feature, and reveals a pit underneath used for modes and ball transportation.
- The crowd surf outlane flipper save is a skill-based ball save mechanic triggered when the player builds up spins in the loop-to-loop and drains left outlane; a mini flipper fires the ball back into play.
- All cheers, guitar moments, and crowd audio in the game are 100% sampled from live Bon Jovi concert footage; the team sourced hours of concert video and extracted callouts from Bon Jovi himself.
- The game features a key-matched sound design system where sound effects adapt to the musical key of the currently playing song, and a system allows samples to swap mid-song when keys change (using chapter markers).
- Lightning flippers (shorter and snappier than regular flippers) are featured on Bon Jovi; Jeff references them being 'back' after Bram Stoker's Dracula.
- Barrels of Fun upgraded Bon Jovi with a new amp, new speakers, new sub, and a new cabinet sub box designed to redirect pressure waves outward instead of internally.
- The game includes a 'crowd engine' that builds ambient crowd audio reactively based on combo performance and is more noticeable during multiball and high-performance play.
- The game offers three voiceover call-out modes: completely off, Bon Jovi only (theme immersion without obtrusiveness), or full Tommy and Gina narrative experience with all callouts.
- This is Barrels of Fun's first music-licensed pinball game.
- The video is not monetized due to Bon Jovi music licensing.
