I went to @s@sternpinballincthe Fallout Pinball launch and got some time with the game. The next Elwin title has a lot going on, so lets talk about that. I grew up playing Fallout 1 and 2... so this was a title I was incredibly curious about. As someone pretty indifferent about the show I'm pleased at the balance between the game and the series. Transforming a 30-Year-Old Pinball Machine Display Into Full Color

Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventure originally uses a single color plasma dot matrix display. It's time to replace it with a ColorDMD, transforming the game’s animations from a single color into full RGB. If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to convert a classic DMD pinball machine to full color, this covers the process from the original display removal to the finished result. IMPORTANT!!!! ColorDMD doesn’t clearly state on their site that the USB drive needs to use an MBR partition table, not GUID/GPT. If it’s formatted as GUID, the system may not recognize the drive at all. I’d recommend confirming the drive is MBR and creating a small 4–8 GB FAT32 partition to maximize compatibility. The Hidden Enemy Of Pinball Flippers.

TL;DR

Technical deep-dive on coil fade physics and active cooling solutions for pinball flippers.

Ever notice your flippers feel strong at the beginning of a game, but after a long session they suddenly seem weaker? That's called flipper fade or coil fade since any coil can be a victim. A flipper works because electricity flows through a coil of copper wire, creating a magnetic field that pulls the plunger and flips the bat. As that coil gets hotter from repeated use, the electrical resistance of the copper increases. Higher resistance means less current can flow through the coil. Less current creates a weaker magnetic field, so the flipper doesn't have the same strength it had when it was cool. That's flipper fade. The harder and longer you're flipping, the more heat builds up in the coil. Long multiballs, repeated shots, or tournament play can all raise the temperature enough to noticeably reduce flipper power. Once the coil cools back down, the resistance drops and the flipper returns to normal strength. How long does that actually take? Pinmonk and I did the research and this is the result.
