My Thoughts On Fallout Pinball.

From the creator

I went to @s@sternpinballincthe Fallout Pinball launch and got some time with the game. The next Elwin title has a lot going on, so lets talk about that. I grew up playing Fallout 1 and 2... so this was a title I was incredibly curious about. As someone pretty indifferent about the show I'm pleased at the balance between the game and the series. Kineticist’s take

TL;DR

Stern Fallout (Keith Elwin) impresses with unique mechanics and theme integration despite higher pricing.

Synopsis

Dirtypool Pinball shares hands-on impressions of the newly revealed Stern Fallout pinball machine after visiting Stern's headquarters. Keith Elwin's design features premium pricing ($1,000 increase on Premium/LE, $300 on Pro), innovative mechanics including a lower playfield with MagnaSave, and strong theme integration with Bethesda/Amazon involvement. The Pro model is positioned as operator-friendly and still highly playable despite component omissions.

Highlights

  • Fallout price increases: $1,000 on Premium/LE, $300 on Pro, positioned as one-off for this 'cornerstone' title
  • Pro version lacks moving vault door, upper/lower playfield with cannon; compensates with cannon mechanic reroute to left flipper
  • Pit Boy toy is collaboration with The Wand Company, fully aluminum cast metal with functional screen
  • Fallout is in Dirtypool's top 3 Keith Elwin designs alongside Jaws and Godzilla
  • Lower playfield features MagnaSave for vault modes with nested multiball (multiball within multiball mechanics)
  • Todd Howard (Bethesda) and Amazon heavily involved in theme licensing and asset provision
  • Video quality and UI integration superior to Star Wars DMD implementation
  • Pro version plays complete and fun despite missing premium features; good value for operators
