Pinball Minority Report

By SSB

Steven talks about Deeproot Pinball's unreleased Space Cadet-inspired project designed by Barry Oursler, shares the story behind designing Barry O's Barbecue Challenge as a tribute to the late Barry Oursler, and breaks down his math-brained, come-from-behind win on Twilight Zone at District 82. We also get into diversity in competitive pinball, women in the scene with Bells and Chimes, and the story behind Steven's t-shirt.

Stern Reclamation Day! [FALLOUT Release Day!]

By SSB

Overall, Keith Elwin and the Team have done it again! If I had the bottle caps for it, my wallet would be out of a Premium Edition. Fortunately, The Pinball Capital will be getting a Limited Edition soon to join their 130+ other pinball machines. Thank goodness, I can put my capless wallet back in my pocket and play it there, where it will likely be available in the Grand Champion Lounge.

Skill Issue (DAYO!)

By SSB

This happens to me OFTEN. Each time I do it correctly it feels like a magic trick like, "OH! I did it right!". Then I have to remember that I need to make a shot soon afterward. That is, if I can't catch it on the other flipper so I can have a chance to THINK. Either that or the flipper doesn't move AT ALL, and the ball just drains. Or, I have to desperately flip the ball away in a late attempt to save myself.

Silverball Super Showdown 5 Final Rounds

By SSB

Pictured in thumbnail: Me staring at the 2-point font showing how many hits to multiball, then me staring at the 2-point font about the instruments, knowing I'm going to ignore that entirely because everyone else does. Then me giving subtle disdain to "Tom Sawyer" showing on screen as I think about the orbit shots that the mode starts with... and how the "shot watcher" hates me when stacking Tom Sawyer mode with multiball. Then me realizing this is NOT the Tom Sawyer mode, it's just the song choice. Then, me wishing I really could start "Tom Sawyer" by selecting the song on the plunge...

Iron Man at The BEAST! One spinner. One target. One ANYTHING!

By SSB

Here's another one I had the privilege(?) to observe live. Raymond Davidson is charging his way toward taking over first place in this game of Iron Man. He is ramping out, taking down Bogey awards along the way. As he reaches the boundary, the pinball has other plans.

IFPA 21: “The Dog Fight at De Pere!” Jason Zahler vs. Eric Stone

By SSB

We had “The Rumble in the Jungle" and “The Thrilla in Manila." Now we have "The Match at District 82." In the future, many will misremember this match as the Grand Final. It was only the Quarter Final round! Before this match concluded, Multiple Time World Pinball Champion Daniele Celestino Acciari had already fought his way through the other side of the bracket to clinch his seat in the Grand Final. There, he waited for his eventual opponent at the top of the mountain.

By SSB

IE Pinball's Karl DeAngelo mines for and takes another piece of pinball unobtanium, The Keefer Invitational on Stern Pinball's World Poker Tour. The pressure builds as the shots count down to what ends up being much less of a victory, and much more of a relief.

By SSB

AAARPinball has created PinBetween, a site where you make a snap judgement between two random pinball games to play. These pinball "would you rathers" can be from the Dot Matrix Display era on up (1990's to the present), or you can filter them by era. As soon as you visit the site, you will see the backglasses of two pinball games. It's simple, select the one you would rather play. Don't take too long! You only have about 15 seconds to decide.

Stern Pokémon Gameplay Tutorial Demonstration at Texas Pinball Festival

By SSB

I had the privilege of playing a live tutorial of Pokémon by Stern Pinball, with Software Developer Tanio Klyce and Game Designer Jack Danger, in front of an audience at Texas Pinball Festival. While Tanio and Jack were representing Stern, I was an independent representative of... well... myself. So, like the seminar attendees, I wanted to know what updates were being planned for this game.

A Pin-Masters conversation with Roger Sharpe

By SSB

IFPA Pin-Masters - a tradition unlike any other. This year, the tradition was held at ORD Pinball near Chicago, Illinois. A site where many pinball Players, including State Pinball Champions, dared to navigate the most sensitive slingshots known to mankind and the toughest PinGolf target scores. As Roger was making quick work of the electromechanical game Wild Card, it malfunctioned. That gave us the opportunity to have a conversation with him about Pin-Masters and competitive pinball in general while the game was being repaired.

Dan and Arin play "It's a Pinball Game That Makes You Mad". One of them gets mad. If you know the YouTube channel Game Grumps, then you already know which one that is. Who is going to tell them that there are a large number of real pinball games that will also make you mad?
