Grand Lizard gameplay tutorial covering rules, features, and tournament strategies.
BATTLE THE LIZARD! 🦎 GRAND LIZARD — FULL GAMEPLAY & RULES! It's a JUNGLE OUT THERE! 🌴🦎 In this episode of Pinball Shenanigans, we're heading deep into the jungle to take on one of Williams' wonderfully weird and ridiculously fun machines — Grand Lizard! This time we're not just playing a few games and flipping some balls around. We're taking a proper look at the rules, features, shots, objectives and gameplay that make Grand Lizard such a fun machine. And believe me… there's a LOT going on in this jungle! Grand Lizard was released by Williams in 1986 and was designed by the killer combination of Barry Oursler and Python Anghelo. That's one heck of a team! Williams produced only 2,750 machines, making Grand Lizard a relatively uncommon Williams pinball. And it's easy to see why this one has developed such a following. 🦎 Four flippers 🎯 Two sets of drop targets 🎯 Two sets of stand-up targets 🐒 Two Magna save buttons — one on each side of the cabinet 🌀 Multiple ramps 🔤 Spell LIZARD objectives 🕷️ Monkey spinner 💥 Stop & Score feature 🕳️ Braving the Cave 🔥 Two-ball AND three-ball multiball 🎵 A fantastic jungle-themed soundtrack 🌴 Some seriously cool Python Anghelo artwork And that's just scratching the surface! We'll go through how the different features work, what you're trying to accomplish, and how all these crazy jungle elements fit together while playing a full game along the way. Williams' promotional material called it: "The next exceptional pin from the exceptional pin maker." And another wonderfully confident Williams slogan was essentially: They didn't make an exceptional number of pinballs… they made a number of exceptional ones! Well… let's see what this particular exceptional one can do! 😂 So grab your machete, watch out for the wildlife, hit those targets, spell LIZARD, activate those Magna saves and try not to get eaten by the Grand Lizard!

PRP Website - Mike and Steph are back from the PAPA World Championships at the Pinball Capital, and the games were every bit as brutal as last year. We recap the weekend, the insanely difficult tournament setups, Mike’s possibly historic 46,000-point game on Star Wars: Fall of the Empire, Steph accidentally walking away from a five-ball game after ball three, and what it’s like trying to compete against some of the best pinball players in the world. We also talk about Chris O’Brien’s unbelievable tournament grind, CJ’s run into the A finals, Shelley making the women’s finals, Steph taking a nasty fall at the tournament, our trip to see The Matches at Bottom Lounge, getting mistaken for the pinball police, and whether PRP HQ eventually needs a pinball elevator. Plus, a correction on the Pokémon Home Edition, our upcoming PRP HQ tournament, Pinball Expo plans, and plenty of other nonsense from the weekend.

Tasker Smith discusses his new pinball mastery book, its scope, and philosophy on teaching ball control and competitive skills.
▶ Full Dirty Pool Podcast Playlist Tasker Smith joins the podcast to talk about his book Pinball: A Quest for Mastery and a bigger question behind it: can you actually learn pinball from a book? We talk about what can and can’t be taught through text, how much of pinball comes from repetition and instinct, whether fundamentals translate from classic games to modern machines, and how Tasker decided what knowledge was important enough to put on the page. We also get into practice, competition, ball control, and what it really means to get better at pinball. 📡 Twitch 📺 YouTube 📷 Instagram 📘 Facebook 👕 Apparel
Gonzo's first-play Pokémon Pinball impressions: surpringly fun and makeable despite theme unfamiliarity.
I finally got my first proper play on the Pokémon Premium Pinball Machine from Stern Pinball — and there wasn't just one of them at UK Pinfest. There were four Pokémon machines lined up next to each other! This was very much a first-eyes, first-play video rather than a full review. I take a look around the Premium machine, explore some of the toys and features and then get some gameplay in to see what Stern have done with one of the biggest entertainment franchises in the world. And I'll say this: the more I played Pokémon, the more I liked it. Released by Stern Pinball in 2026, Pokémon was developed by a team including designers Jack Danger and George Gomez, with Tanio Klyce leading the software side. The game sends you across four different habitats as you discover, catch and build a collection of Pokémon while battling rival Trainers and taking on Team Rocket. There's a huge amount going on across the playfield. You've got an animatronic Pikachu, an illuminated moving Poké Ball ball lock, the interactive Meowth Balloon, Squirtle Whirlpool, Psyduck scoop, Charmander spinning target, Pokédex captive ball and plenty of ramps, targets and shots. The Premium version also adds an interactive electromagnet in the battle arena to cause even more chaos with the ball. There's plenty here for Pokémon fans too. Stern have incorporated footage from the original animated series, custom voice work for Pikachu and Giovanni and, naturally, the classic Pokémon Theme (Gotta Catch 'Em All). The game also uses Stern's Insider Connected system, allowing Pokémon you catch while playing to be added to your own digital Pokémon Collection. I'm certainly no Pokémon expert, so I'm approaching this primarily as a pinball machine — how it shoots, how the layout feels and, most importantly, whether it's fun. My initial reaction? I wasn't completely sold immediately, but each game won me over a little bit more. By the time I'd finished playing, I was really enjoying it.

Grand Lizard flasher repair finally solved after decade of troubleshooting.
After what feels like an entire geological era, I have FINALLY defeated the Grand Lizard! 😂 In this episode of Pinball Shenanigans, I battle Lizzie one more time — and hopefully, FOR THE LAST TIME! The biggest problem that has been haunting me for what seems like an eternity has finally been solved: THE EYES FLASH!!! 👀💡 Yes, after nearly a decade of this machine being in my life, I have finally figured out what was stopping those darn Grand Lizard eyes from flashing properly. There have been chips replaced, troubleshooting, testing, head scratching, multimeter probing, questionable decisions and probably a few things that should never have been said around a pinball machine. 🤣 But somehow… WE DID IT! The flashers are working, the eyes are flashing, Lizzie is happy, I'm happy, and most importantly… I DON'T HAVE TO THINK ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ANYMORE! 😂 And apparently I'm on a roll because there's another machine that has been taking up a considerable amount of brain space lately… 🔫 GOTTLIEB 007 JAMES BOND IS GONE! 🕵️♂️ That's right — I SOLD THE JAMES BOND 007 machine! Which means that I have technically resolved every problem with that machine. 😂 Was it fixed? Well… let's just say the problem is no longer my problem! 🤣 James Bond has officially left the building, so I can now proudly declare that particular project RESOLVED using the most powerful repair technique known to pinball technicians: SELLING THE DAMN THING. 😂 So with James Bond gone and Grand Lizard finally behaving, we're making some serious progress around here! With the final Grand Lizard gremlins finally evicted, I finish up the last little details and then it's time for the moment we've been waiting for: 🎯 A PROPER PLAY TEST! After all these years of fighting with this machine, does Grand Lizard finally play the way it should? Come along for the ride as we put Lizzie through her paces and celebrate the end of one of the longest-running battles in Pinball Shenanigans history.
