About
Zaccaria was an Italian pinball manufacturer founded in Bologna in 1974 by brothers Marino, Franco and Natale Zaccaria. Marino had managed a bar near Bologna before the brothers went into pinball manufacturing together; their first release was Strike, a bowling-themed table, that same year. By 1975 the company was exporting across Europe, and its machines soon reached Japan, Australia and the United States.
At its peak, Zaccaria was the third-largest pinball manufacturer in the world, trailing only Bally and Williams. Between 1974 and 1987 the company built at least 47 pinball machines, known for colorful original artwork, much of it by house artist Lorenzo Rimondini, along with early solid-state electronics and digital sound. Titles from that run include Winter Sports (1978), Space Shuttle (1980), Devil Riders (1984), Magic Castle (1984) and Robot (1985).
In 1988 the company went bankrupt and was sold to new owners, who relaunched it as Mr. Game with redesigned cabinets and color TV score displays, but the label produced only six machines before folding in 1990. The Bologna factory was later sold to Tecnoplay in San Marino, now run by Mauro Zaccaria, son of founder Marino Zaccaria. Zaccaria's original catalog survives today through Zaccaria Pinball, a digital recreation from developer Magic Pixel Kft that has rebuilt more than 35 of the original tables for PC and consoles since its 2013 mobile debut.
