Flipper Rebuild & My 1st Game! Allied Leisure Getaway Part 17
Summary
Pinball Shenanigans rebuilds Allied Leisure Getaway flippers and playtests it, finding a suspected MPU fault.
Mike Dymus of Pinball Shenanigans documents his ongoing restoration of an Allied Leisure Getaway (1977), covering lamp and switch troubleshooting, reflowing solder joints, and rebuilding the plastic flipper mechanisms. He concludes with a first playtest showing working flippers but a persistent MPU logic fault where the game incorrectly runs in three-player mode, which he says may require sending the board out for repair.
Welcome back to **Pinball Shenanigans!** π° In Part 17 of Allied Leisure Getaway, it's time to tackle those funky Allied Leisure flippers! They have a unique design, and I'm diving headfirst into rebuilding them for the very first time. What could possibly go wrong? π Well, the parts department certainly wasn't cooperating. We've got a **burnt-out solenoid, an incorrect solenoid, and a collection of worn-out parts** standing between me and pinball glory. Thankfully, I had a spare cabinet nearby, which promptly became the victim of a good old-fashioned parts robbery! π§πͺ¦ After scavenging, swapping, rebuilding, and questioning a few life choices along the way, I finally get those flippers rebuilt and back in action. But wait... there's more! After sorting out the lights, switches, solenoids, and freshly rebuilt flippers, it's finally time for the moment we've been working toward: **my first proper full game of Allied Leisure Getaway!** π And you know what? It actually goes pretty well! After all the repairs, troubleshooting, and mechanical nonsense, I finally get to experience the game as it was meant to be played. There's something pretty satisfying about seeing all that hard work come together when you can finally plunge a ball and enjoy a proper game. Of course, this wouldn't be a Pinball Shenanigans episode without a catch. This stubborn old machine is STILL glitchy, and those pesky gremlins clearly haven't finished their business with me just yet. Apparently, getting it playable doesn't mean Allied Leisure is ready to surrender! πΉ π© **In this episode:** - Tackling the unique Allied Leisure flipper design for the first time - Rebuilding the flippers from the ground up - Dealing with a burnt-out solenoid, an incorrect solenoid, and worn-out components - Raiding a spare cabinet for much-needed replacement parts - Getting the lights, switches, and solenoids working - Testing those freshly rebuilt flippers - Finally playing my FIRST full game of Getaway!
